Gluten free kids and pizza parties

Kid’s birthday parties and classroom celebrations can seem like a tough situation for gluten free kids. A little preplanning can go a long way in making sure your little one doesn’t feel left out. Our ten inch crust is the perfect size pizza to take along to parties. I bet you could even pick up a pizza box from your local pizza place (unused of course!) to transport your gluten free pizza while giving it the appearance of a pizzeria purchase. You may be surprised when non-gluten free kids are grabbing for a piece as well! It’s a great time to stock your freezer with a few crusts for occasions such as these.

Gluten free breadsticks make a delicious addition to your Thanksgiving dinner.

Thanksgiving is just around the corner (next week? YIKES!) and I wanted to share with you a recipe that we use often and goes with almost anything. This is where we step outside of our ‘pizza box’ and go beyond the traditional pie.

Start with a defrosted pizza crust. Bake it plain in the oven at 400 degrees for 5-10 minutes (depending on how well done you like your bread). Did you know that Dad’s Crusts fit perfectly in standard counter top toaster ovens? We almost always make our creations in the toaster oven.

While the crust is baking prepare the herbs. I used fresh parsley, rosemary, and garlic. Wash and cut the stems off the herbs and peel the garlic. Put those along with 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil in a mini food processor. Process until the herbs and garlic and been minced pretty fine. Remove the toasted crust from the oven and spread the herb mixture evenly over top. Sprinkle with some dried oregano, sea salt, and whatever other herbs you like. Return the crust to the oven on broil for a minute or two to brown the top. Remove from the oven, let cool for a few minutes and then slice into six long sticks or twelve short sticks. Serve immediately.

This recipe is so versatile. Add what ever fresh or dried herbs you like or that will complement your meal.

Voila! Gluten free breadsticks for your Thanksgiving dinner table. It’s not too late to place an order for Thanksgiving!

Until next time ~ be well and EAT PIZZA.
